Feteasca Regala & Feteasca Alba Arezan 2011, M1. Crama Atelier

I haven’t been to Murfatlar yet, althought this year I was invited again to taste the new wines produced by M1. Crama Atelier, the small wine cellar from the big enterprise – Murfatlar. The Dobrogean vineyard is located exactly in the other end of the country, at a distance of about 800 km from my town, Oradea… It is also true that I had scheduled other things for the time, but the long distance seemed a better excuse.

It happened that Geta (my better half, more diligent and more organised) who was in Bucharest for Vintest 2012 wine fair, dropped by Murfatlar / M1. Crama Atelier, to sit for stories with Răzvan Macici and Dan Bundur. She had the chance to taste the new white and red wines and of course she did not leave empty handed: she brought home a bottle of Feteasca Regala & Feteasca Alba Arezan 2011, bottle that we oppened Saturday evening with some friends.

Well cooled, the wine opened gradually laying out the typical flavours of the two grape varieties from which it was been obtained: Feteasca Regala and Feteasca Alba: discreet floral aromas, vegetal impressions but also some notes of green apple, fruittyness, in any case nothing bombastic and nothing exotic. The taste is full, round, but with a nice shaped acidity, slightly citric, which has a bitter and elegant aftertaste. It’s a fresh wine, vinified rather in the spirit of the vine varieties.

Feteasca Regala & Feteasca Alba Arezan 2011 can be found in wine stores and wine bars at a price that slightly over 40 lei (9 euro). If it had been 10% cheaper I would have recommended it without any restrain.
